Support The Cory Monteith Summer Music Camp Fundraiser

Last year, Saint James Music Academy and Ann McGregor, Cory Monteith’s mother, raised money for SJMA in honour of what would have been Cory’s 34th birthday.

On May 11th, 2017, Cory Monteith would have turned 35. Although many knew Cory as an actor, it was his charity work and unconditional love that gave him a special place in people’s hearts.

It has been nearly four years since Cory’s tragic passing but he is continually remembered for his kind spirit and open mind. He dedicated his time to help at-risk children to find a purpose and happiness in their young impressionable lives, particularly through music and the arts.

“The transformational effect of music on children transcends boundaries, languages, cultures, borders, all of the above. I think it’s truly a flat world effect. It has the same effect and is reproducible anywhere in the world. It can change the life of a child, through music education, for the rest of their life.” – Cory Monteith / El Sistema

This year SJMA and Cory’s mother have collaborated to create the “Cory Monteith Summer Music Camp Challenge.”

The challenge is to give 50 children from SJMA the opportunity for an incredible learning experience. With a vision to make this summer music campaign an annual fundraiser for SJMA that Cory would be proud of. Ms McGregor’s goal is to “Give every kid the chance to shine.” She wants to tell the children, “We see you. You matter.”

About SJMA

Saint James Music Academy teaches classical music at no cost to children living in Downtown Eastside Vancouver ( DTES ) – Canada’s lowest income urban neighbourhood. According to their website, the children at SJMA find joy through music. They discover the deep riches of their own potential and find new self-esteem. They learn about beauty and collaboration with others.

The transformational effect creates empowerment and changes the life of a child.

We hope you will help us celebrate Cory’s birthday and honour his memory by doing something he would have loved to be a part of. Helping other people gave Cory joy, and if we stand together we can bring a tremendous amount of light and happiness into the lives of 50 children.

Happy birthday, Cory. Thank you for inspiring us to always meet other people with kindness and an open heart. In honour of you, we will continue to spread all of the light and positivity you had inside of you.
